About
CardcaptorStacey.co.uk is Cardcaptor Stacey's main website which focuses on her personal work, interests and many other things.
The Name
The name
Cardcaptor comes from the anime/manga series Cardcaptor Sakura. Back in 2001 I wanted a username to use on sites to give myself an universal identity, so I combined
Cardcaptor from
Cardcaptor Sakura and my own first name. I created that name when I was thirteen years old, so over those years it has stuck. When it was time for my domain name I just kept
Cardcaptor Stacey and got a .co.uk as I live in the UK. It was a lot cheaper than the others.
Domain & Web History
From the Bottom
Back in secondary school, I got into the Internet through my brother. (He went to our uncle's to go on the Internet when it was not too commerical, many years ago). Within a month of browsing and getting used to such a useful tool, I was curious how website were made so I made my own. During that time I also came across a passion for creating RPG's after stumbing across an great community unexpectly. I spent all my time creating sprites, backgrounds and my own scripts. Although I did enjoy it very much, everything was very time consuming and I found myself crawling back to web design. I had no experience with web. I learnt everything I needed to know on my own, through experimention.
Beginning of an Obsession
I started out a very terrible building site called
Homestead but quickly stopped using it. I discovered
Angelfire (if I remember correctly), using their crappy templates but wanted more freedom. I then discovered
Geocities. With more freedom I designed my first layout. It was covered in flowers and featured Cardcaptor Sakura which took several minutes to load of a 56k modem. I wrote about my game I was creating. After leaving Geocities for
Lycos Tripod (UK), I was totally free to do what I wanted.
College
Eventually, I gave up my RPG and fully supported myself on my new passion which blossomed everyday. As school was finishing, I decided I wanted to do web design as a career, so I took graphic design at college. When my course began to finish and I left with a diploma which would get me into the university I wanted. I took one of the biggest (and best) decision of my life yet - what web course to take. I was very tempted to take web design, but with newly gained knowledge of
CSS and bits of
PHP I learnt myself, I decided after two years of design at college, designing was not the road to take. I pick web developement, so I could do a range of web related subjects.
University & My Revolution
University changed my web life. My website took huge steps forward compared to the standard I had at college. I learnt new techniques and gained better knowledge of
HTML and
CSS but the second year brought me the step up to the big guys -
PHP,
MySQL,
XHTML and
accessibility. Accessibility changed my web habits and changed me as a person.
